Puorro Upgrades From PD To GM
• Chris Puorro is leaving his OM/PD post at the University of Central Florida’s WUCF (89.9 Jazz And More)/Orlando and is moving down the coast — but higher in the executive suite — he’s the newly named General Manager of WQCS (88.9 NPR For The Treasure Coast) at Indian River State College in Ft. Pierce, FL.
Puorro (left) is probably best known for his 12-year run with Nassau Broadcasting — eight years as APD/MD at WPST/Trenton, and four as OM of the company’s cluster in Hagerstown, MD. He later spent several years as Programming Coordinator with John Garabedian‘s CodComm, Inc. on Cape Cod before moving to Florida in 2012.
“Thanks to everyone at UCF for the past 5+ years; it was a great ride,” Puorro said. “I’m looking forward to this new opportunity and happy that I’m still in sunny Florida!”
Puorro will be starting his new opportunity later this month. In the meantime, the search for a worthy successor begins now — if you want to join the largest university in the United States and home of the real National Football Champions (the undefeated UCF Knights!), apply now at the University Of Central Florida website. As Chris just proved, previous Noncomm/NPR experience is not essential. WUCF-FM is regularly one of the top rated Jazz stations in the country and they need a new Programming leader to keep them there.
