Spurgeon Exits Radio One

Veteran radio management executive Gary Spurgeon has resigned as VP/GM of Radio One’s Houston cluster — Rhythmic KBXX (97.9 The Box), Urban AC KMJQ (Majic 102.1), Top 40 KPRI (Radio Now 92.1) and Inspirational Praise 102.1 (KMJQ HD2). We understand the announcement of a successor is forthcoming, so watch this space.

Spurgeon (left) joined Radio One in April of 2011 as VP/GM of the Dallas cluster, and relocated to Houston in March of 2015 when Doug Abernethy left the company.

Earlier in his management career, Spurgeon worked in Jacksonville, FL, where he served as GM of Renda Broadcasting’s group and Market Manager for the Cox cluster. From 1999-2004 Spurgeon was Regional VP/GM for Regent Communications.
