Tom O’Brien Goin’ Fishin’
• Cumulus announced that Tom O’Brien is retiring as VP/Market Manager of the company’s Detroit cluster at the end of the year, closing out a brilliant 40-year career as a Motor City radio fixture.
O’Brien (left) joined Cumulus News-Talk WJR-AM/Detroit in 2004 as Director of Sales, and was promoted to VP/Market Manager for the company’s three-station cluster in 2011. Prior to joining Cumulus, O’Brien spent 14 years across the street at CBS Radio’s all-news WWJ-AM as General Sales Manager and Station Manager, and he also held positions as a local Account Exec and Regional Manager for Interep.
Dave Milner, Executive Vice President, Operations of Cumulus Media, commented, “We thank Tom for his significant contributions to radio, to Cumulus, and to the Detroit community, and we wish him all the best in his retirement.” O’Brien remarked, “Working with the team at WJR, ‘The Great Voice of the Great Lakes,’ and Cumulus Detroit has been a privilege. Thank you to my first boss, Tony Salvadore, my last boss, Dave Milner, and all the team members and clients in between for a really enjoyable career.”
