Williams Is Brewing In Michigan’s U.P.
• mediaBrew Communications, led by veteran radio executive Chuck Williams, has closed on the purchase of three FMs and four FM translators in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The seller is Great Lakes Radio in Marquette, MI, and the properties involved in the transaction are Classic Rock WRUP (98.3), Country WFXD (103.3) and AC WKQS (101.9 Sunny FM), and four FM translators: W260AG @ 99.9; W248BU @ 97.5; W291CJ @ 106.1 and W286BC @105.1. The purchase also includes digital media assets including UPbargains.com and various client web-hosting services. The Great Lakes properties are mediaBrew’s first acquisition.
Williams, the former VP/Market Manager of Emmis Indianapolis formed mediaBrew Communications Marquette LLC in early 2019 as the vehicle to purchase and operate the Marquette stations previously owned by Great Lakes Radio. “I’m excited to enter Michigan’s vibrant U.P. markets and to welcome the current Great Lakes Radio management team and staff into the mediaBrew Communications family,” Williams said. “This team has built such a wonderfully robust and active radio and media cluster. We are committed to helping these market-leading radio and media veterans build on their successes and their outstanding service to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.”
The seller, Great Lakes Radio, headed by Todd Noordyk is retaining WQXO-AM and one translator in Munising as well as WRPP-FM in Manistique. The broker for the transaction was Bill Cate of Media Services Group. Terms of the transaction were not released.
