CPB, RFA Support Public Radio Reporters

Report For America (RFA), a national service program that places journalists into local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities announced 300 journalist placements for 2021, including 10 reporters who will work in public radio newsrooms through a new partnership with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).

Over the next two years, CPB will provide nearly $650,000 to fund half of the 10 reporters’ salaries during the first year and 42% in the second, with RFA and stations paying the remainder. Pat Harrison, CPB President & CEO, commented, “CPB and Report for America are both committed to strengthening local journalism. By working together, we will increase journalism capacity at 10 public radio stations that are essential sources of local news in their communities.”

The 10 public radio stations are predominantly in rural areas or serve large minority audiences, and many of the RFA reporters will cover rural or minority issues. These 10 journalists are among the nearly 60 Report For America placements at 44 public radio stations this year across 26 states. The 10 reporters and public radio stations in the CPB-RFA partnership are: KUCB/Unalaska, AK (Theodore Greenly); Marfa Public Radio/Marfa, TX (Annie Rosenthal); Radio Bilingüe/Fresno, CA (TBA); WFAE/Charlotte (Dante Miller); WSKG/Binghamton, NY (Phoebe Taylor-Vuolo); WPLN/Nashville (Caroline Eggers — as reported in Wednesday’s RAMP); Yellowstone Public Radio/Billings, MT (Taylar Stagner); WUFT/Gainesville, FL(Katherine “Katie” Hyson); WITF/Harrisburg, PA (Gabriela Martinez); WYSO/Yellow Springs, OH (TBA).
