Rise & Shine, Campers!

Preston & Steve, longtime morning icons on Beasley Active Rock WMMR/Philadelphia are set to embark on yet another food drive of epic proportions with the 20th annual Preston & Steve Camp Out For Hunger. This event, which has been recognized as the nation’s largest single-location food drive, will kick off at 6am today and runs all week through 11am on Friday, December 1.

The guys will establish temporary residency in the spacious and luxurious parking lot of Xfinity Live! Philadelphia, and spend that time soliciting food donations from listeners and businesses in the greater Philly area.

Dozens of local and national celebrities, performers and athletes will be on hand to lend their support, including U.S. Senator Chris Coons of Delaware, Zach Ertz and Beau Allen from the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelly Ripa, M. Night Shyamalan and many more. Donors will be treated to free coffee in the morning, along with breakfast, lunch and dinner. There will also be plenty of prizes and incentives along with multiple free events at night, including a Preston & Steve Calendar Girl signing, a comedy night featuring Don Jameson & Jim Florentine, a family movie night and watch parties for Sixers and Flyers games.

The guys started their food drive back in 1998 because they believed that hunger was a real issue in the Philadelphia area and needed to be addressed. Their goal that year was one ton of food, which they (to their own surprise), achieved. Fast-forward to 2016, and their efforts yielded over 580 tons of food — that’s 1,367,384 pounds of food generated with a week’s-worth of broadcasts and months of planning and promotion. The 2017 results, combined with over $74,000 in unsolicited financial donations, yielded over 1.4 million meals for individuals facing hunger insecurity.
