Well, There Goes The Format…
Entercom Rock WAAF/Boston wrapped up it’s annual Rock For Change campaign last Friday evening, with the three-day fundraising total exceeding $105,000, all to benefit The Greater Boston, Worcester County and New Hampshire Food Banks — the equivalent of about 315,000 healthy meals for people in need. As always, this annual WAAF labor of love was a group effort — starting at 6am on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, morning host Greg “Hill-Man” Hill stayed on the air until 7pm daily, co-hosting middays with Mike Hsu and afternoons with Mistress Carrie as they helped raise funds for the food banks. Over the last 25 years, WAAF has raised over $1.6 million towards this goal.
Making the proceedings even more entertaining (and sometimes downright bizarre), WAAF volunteered to break format and play pretty much anything, provided you made a donation. However, the further away from the Mainstream Rock format that request was, the larger the donation needed to be. In addition to the regular stuff from WAAF core artists, listeners were treated to everything from Rihanna to Glenn Miller and Barry Manilow to Drake. Entercom Boston Director of Marketing Adam Ralston commented, “Every year we’re overwhelmed by the generosity of the WAAF listeners and sponsors while being equally impressed with their diverse musical selections. 2016’s donation total shattered the amount raised in 2015. The WAAF staff is honored to be able to contribute to ending hunger.”
