KEGL/Dallas Gets Its Freak On

• As we initially teased last week, iHeartMedia has gone ahead and flipped longtime Active Rock KEGL (97.1 The Eagle)/Dallas to personality-driven “Hot Talk” as 97.1 The Freak. The new format formally launched at 3pm CT Monday.

The new 97.1 The Freak is billed as a “broad-based personality-driven radio station that connects in a personal way with the DFW audience,” and that connection starts in morning drive with The Speakeasy with Jeff Cavanaugh, Kevin “KT” Turner, Julie Dobbs and Matt Cather; followed from 11am-3pm by The Ben & Skin Show with Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Krystina “K-Ray” Ray and Michael “Grubes” Gruber; and The Downbeat from 3-7pm, hosted by the newly unretired Mike Rhyner alongside Mike Sirois and Michael “Grubes” Gruber.

Patrick Davis, Regional SVP of Programming, Dallas, exclaimed, “We’re beyond excited to introduce 97-1 The Freak — the level of talent is insurmountable, and we’re thrilled for the opportunity to further connect with Dallas Fort Worth!”
