New Alternative In New Haven
Connoisseur Media Connecticut is in the final countdown to today’s launch of a new Alternative player in the New Haven market — Mod 102.3, described as New Haven’s only indie/alternative radio station, is set to debut this morning via translator W272DO at the dial-appropriate time of 10:23am. Connoisseur says they made the decision to bring current Alternative music to the new dial position of 102.3 after an extensive music study showed a clear void for the format. Mod 102.3 will focus on Alternative music from the last ten years, delivered by familiar personalities.
Mod 102.3 will be under the command of Keith Dakin, Regional Operations Manager of Connoisseur Connecticut, who is certainly no stranger to the Alt format, having formerly programmed the late, great WFNX/Boston. Ed Oliveira and Christian Turnquist will be the station’s main personalities and Tristan Haller will be the point-person for all of the marketing for Mod 102.3. Dakin explained, “There is so much music out there that people are streaming, going to see live, and buzzing about that isn’t on the radio. Mod 102.3 will fill that void.” He added, “Alternative/Indie music didn’t die in 1997… it’s alive and well and being ignored in New Haven. We are extremely excited to have Mod give these sounds to that audience.”
Connoisseur Media Connecticut GM Kristin Okesson remarked, “Choosing the indie/alternative format for 102.3 was an obvious choice, because New Haven clearly wants a station focused on the last ten years of Alternative music. Our team understands, lives, and supports the New Haven community. Moreover, this team has a deep passion for Alternative music with years of combined experience in the format. We look forward to supporting alternative/indie artists and giving them a platform to launch new music in a market that is diverse, has a rich history in the arts, and already loves this genre of music.”
