New Day Dawns At KROQ/Los Angeles
• Entercom Alternative KROQ/Los Angeles has made a major change in morning drive — current afternoon drive co-hosts Stryker and Kevin Klein are moving up to mornings in the coming weeks, succeeding longtime station veteran Kevin Ryder, who exited this week after some 30 years. Stryker and Klein will now be heard weekdays from 5-10am PT. Megan Holiday will do afternoons and a search is now underway for a new night jock.
“We thank Kevin for his many years of dedication, comedy and entertainment, alongside Bean, that helped build KROQ into the iconic station it is today,” said Jeff Federman, Regional President, Entercom. “Stryker and Klein have an engaged and loyal fanbase and we look forward to ushering in the future of mornings with them on the World Famous KROQ.”
Mike Kaplan, Senior Vice President of Programming, Entercom, commented, “Kevin and Bean set the bar high for mornings on KROQ. We’re looking forward to this next chapter in the station’s history and think our listeners will enjoy getting to see a different side to Stryker and Klein as they start their day.”
A KROQ spokesperson added, “As one of the most iconic stations in Los Angeles, our commitment is to provide our consumers with the most compelling content and best listening experience that we know they expect from us. We’ve taken a deep look at our station, and have made some recent changes. Today, we announced the launch of a new morning show that we believe will deliver what our fans are asking for and take our station into the future. While change is always hard, we are excited about our new programming lineup and look forward to engaging with our fans across the city. Thank you Kevin and Bean for 30 entertaining years!”
Stryker joined KROQ in 1999. In addition to his regular KROQ duties he currently hosts the syndicated Out of Order for Compass Media Networks. He has also served as host of the Grammy Awards for Grammy.com and has made numerous television and movie appearances. Prior to joining KROQ, Klein hosted Kevin Klein Live on the former Live 105 (now Entercom sister ALT 105.3)/San Francisco. Klein has also hosted The Playboy Morning Show in Los Angeles and has been featured on VH1, MTV, Bravo and E!.
• Not surprisingly, Kevin Ryder quickly defended his longtime colleagues, tweeting, “Just wanna say this for now: @TedStryker, @kroqKLEIN, @NicoleFAlvarez, @MeganHoliday are my family. I truly love them. Please be kind to them.”
The new KROQ weekday lineup now looks like this — 5-10am: Stryker and Klein; 10am-3pm: Nicole Alvarez; 3-7pm: Megan Holiday; 7-11pm: Rotating hosts; 11pm-midnight: Roq n Beats with Jeremiah Red; midnight-5am: Rubin.
