Fresh off Wednesday’s appearance on the Today show and the announcement of his upcoming North American tour, Atlantic recording artist Ed Sheeran continues his global domination as “Shape of You” just broke the record for most spins in a week at Mediabase Pop with 19,585 spins! The song is currently locked at No. 1 at both Top 40 and Hot AC and is headed Top 5 at Rhythmic. It’s also No. 1 on iTunes’ Top Songs chart and Spotify’s Top 50 (both Global and U.S.) and has been No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 6 weeks. The video recently passed 315 million views on Ed’s official YouTube alone.
Sheeran’s new album, ÷ has proven to be an even greater phenomenon than his previous release, 2014’s 4x RIAA platinum-certified x — released on March 3, ÷ immediately soared to No. 1 on the iTunes charts in 96 countries and has also achieved historic levels of streaming success including the best-ever one day streams for a single artist (68,695,172), best one-day streams for an individual album (56,727,861), and best first-day streams for an individual album (56,727,861), the latter two statistics almost doubling the previous record-holder’s success. “Shape of You” also garnered the best one-day streams for a single track with a remarkable 10,123,630 streams — besting Ed’s own record set earlier this year upon the single’s initial release.
