Happy Mason Dixon Day!
• We want to take this opportunity to send our very best wishes to one of our radio idols — Tampa Bay legend Mason Dixon, whose name will forever be associated with Beasley’s iconic WRBQ (Q105)/Tampa. Mason is scheduled to show up at work this morning to kick off the celebration of his 40th anniversary on the radio! Today at 8:30am, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn will show up at the station to present Mason with an official-looking proclamation declaring Tuesday, February 27th as “Mason Dixon Day” in Tampa Bay!
The hallmark of a truly unselfish radio pro, Dixon in very involved in his community — in 2002, he created the non-profit Mason Dixon Christmas Wish Fund, Inc. Through the “Christmas Wish”, Dixon has been able to help families who have fallen on hard times throughout the holidays, especially those who may have fallen through the cracks of public assistance. Over the past 16 years, the Mason Dixon Christmas Wish Fund has raised over two million dollars and has helped more than 5,000 local families.
“Forty years of doing what love, and I feel like I’ve never worked a day in my life,” said Dixon. “My job, plus raising a family in the most beautiful area anywhere, makes me feel truly like a lucky man and I’m still loving every minute of it.”
