DFW Icon Jim White Announces Retirement

• It’s the “end of an era,” as accurately described by Bo Roberts, as his longtime friend and on-air partner of 40+ years, “Long” Jim White announced his impending retirement as co-host of the Bo & Jim morning show on iHeartMedia Classic Rock KZPS (Lone Star 92.5)/Dallas, effective July 22.

White broke the big news during Tuesday’s broadcast, commenting, “Doing this show has been some of the best years of my life,” and later posted a lengthy message on the show’s web page. “I always loved listening to radio, the music and the personalities on the air,” White wrote. “I knew at 14 I wanted to be on the radio. My first job was in 1968 and here I am 54 years later. 40 years working with Bo Roberts, who has been my friend for 45 years. Speaking of friends, all of you for hanging with me, Bo and [Producer] Randy [James] on Lonestar 92.5 for the past 20.”

White and Roberts were initially teamed up on CBS Radio’s KTXQ (Q102)/Dallas from 1982 until the station was sold and signed off in 1998. The following year they joined KZPS to do afternoons. After a three-year break, the guys returned in 2004, this time as morning hosts, and the rest, as they say, is DFW radio history.

Weighing in on his longtime partner, Bo Roberts (both 2018 inductees into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame), White said, “He is the most creative and funniest guy I have ever known. He always surprises me with some Corsicana witticism that would crack me up, even after 45 years! I love him like a brother. And, we couldn’t do what we do without my other brother, the dynamo, producer, musician and great human being Randy James. Bo says I’m going to miss it. I will miss it. I will miss you… I will miss our fun and laughter in the morning, our blood drive broadcast and meeting our wonderful listeners who have been with us since 1982.”

In closing, White offered up a “Giant Thank Y’all for 40 memorable years in Dallas Fort Worth and all points in between! I’m moving onto another chapter in my life, as I am still writing my story and making it up as I go along!” Pictured, (l-r): James, White and Roberts.
