Gardner Never Leaving WMGK

• Or so it would seem… after nearly two decades in afternoon drive on Beasley Classic Rock WMGK/Philadelphia, market icon André Gardner has inked a sweet contract extension to keep him around even longer. He will continue to host his highly rated Sunday feature, Breakfast With The Beatles. Gardner (pictured here performing his socially-distanced contract signing, alongside PD Bill Weston and VP/Market Manager Joe Bell), joined WMGK in April 2002.

In a Facebook post announcing his big news, Gardner said, “So stoked to announce that I have signed a contract extension (from a social distance!) to keep rocking your afternoons for years to come on Classic Rock 102.9 MGK!! Thanks to [Chief Content Officer] Justin Chase, Joe Bell, Bill Weston, the Beasley family and our MGK listening audience for your continued support! I love my job!!!”

RAMP spoke with Gardner’s boss, a certain Bill Weston, who told us, “Andre Gardner is an ambassador for the radio industry… which sounds a little more hefty than ‘radio geek.’ Andre loves radio, and on WMGK you can’t help but get caught up in his enthusiastic approach to life, music and afternoon drive every day.”

Prior to joining WMGK 18 years ago, Gardner worked at several other late, legendary Philly stations, including WIFI, WZZD, WYSP and WSNI. Earlier stops include KEGL (97.1 The Eagle)/Dallas, WAPW (Power 99)/Atlanta and WXRK (92.3 K-Rock)/New York — where we are told he operated the dump button for The Howard Stern Show! Gardner got his first radio break at 16 at WPST/Trenton, NJ. [Photo by Jim Kinney]
