Kane-O Hits 4-0 At WCMF

• We want to take this opportunity to salute Dave “Kane-O” Kane, the Ironman of Rochester radio, who is about to celebrate a momentous career milestone — Monday, Feb. 22 marks Kane-O’s 40th anniversary with Entercom Classic Rock WCMF/Rochester, NY! Kane launched his career with WCMF on Feb. 22, 1981 as a semi-fresh-faced 22-year-old kid (pictured below). Later that same year, he was named APD/MD, and went on to program the station from 2008-2010.

RAMP last celebrated Kane-O’s already impressive longevity back on Feb. 22, 2016, when he marked his 35th anniversary with the station. “I’ve always said that I am blessed to have found a job that I love to do in a place where I love to do it,” Kane said. “My longevity in Rochester is testament to the quality of life here, and certainly most of all, to the dedicated Rockers who have not only supported WCMF for over a half century, but who have fostered and sustained a vibrant Rock & Roll scene in Rochester for decades.”

Susan Munn, SVP/Market Manager of Entercom Rochester, commented, “Forty years on the air at one radio station is unprecedented in Rochester radio and possibly unprecedented anywhere else in the country. So many Rochesterians have grown up with WCMF and Dave Kane and to have him still ‘rockin” on WCMF 40 years later makes people feel very connected to the station and to him.”

Kane continued, “I still marvel at the amount of incredible experiences I’ve had, the places I’ve been, the musicians & shows I’ve had access to, and the people I’ve met. I’m extremely fortunate to have worked with so many amazing, talented people over the many years, and most of all, the connection… this incredible bond that has been forged with the audience and the local community that is the most satisfying and humbling to me.”

Due to ongoing COVID protocols, Kane-O has been broadcasting his midday show from home since last March; however, he tells RAMP he will be back in the studio on Monday to mark this milestone — the only other time he returned to the station was after Eddie Van Halen‘s death last October.

Kane-O By The Numbers: Years on the air: 40 (41 in the Rochester market); Program Directors: 11; Owners: 5; GMs: 7; Broadcast Facilities: 5; Regrets: “I’ve had a few.. (but not many!)” — Please take a moment and wish Kane-O a happy 40th at Dave.Kane@entercom.com. [Vintage photo courtesy of Dave Kane]
