Radio Steps Up For Fallen Hero
The citizens of the Greater Detroit area are mourning the Nov. 23 death of Collin Rose, a Wayne State University police officer who was shot in the line of duty while making a routine stop. He died from his injuries a day later. Naturally, this senseless tragedy hit the Wayne State community very hard, and in the following days, mourners gathered at vigils to honor Officer Rose. Detroit Dog Rescue, where Officer Rose’s fiancée is an employee, organized a benefit to support Rose’s family.
When WYCD/Detroit afternoon personality Rob Stone heard about the benefit, he wanted to offer his support — he took it upon himself to spearhead a station effort to contribute to a fundraiser to aid the Rose family. Enlisting the help of WYCD PD Tim Roberts, the two were able to secure two autographed guitars from Country superstars Jason Aldean and Kenny Chesney, courtesy of Broken Bow Records and Columbia Nashville, respectively, the star attractions in a silent auction. Combined, the two items were able to raise over $3,000 to help the fallen officer’s family.
That’s Officer Rose’s photo on the left, along with a collection of donated items, which included memorabilia from all of Detroit’s sports teams, all to benefit the Rose family. The benefit was held at Tony V’s Tavern in midtown Detroit, close to the Wayne State campus.
