Hall Extended In Memphis, New Fly In Ft. Myers
• Cumulus Media has re-upped Drake Hall to a long-term contract extension to keep on hosting The Drake Hall Show with Danni, Wes & Syd on Mainstream Rock WXMX (98.1 The Max)/Memphis. Hall (left) is a 30-year Memphis radio pro who has been with The Max since 2006.
As the ink was drying, Cumulus Memphis VP/Market Manager Morgan Bohannon said, “We are excited to have secured Drake Hall for the foreseeable future. We look forward to even more success with his unique and compelling content, not to mention the service he provides many as the voice of Memphians.” Hall remarked, “I’m grateful that Cumulus Memphis has allowed me to keep the job. Many thanks to my friends and colleagues for their ongoing support; particularly, the three gifted people that join me daily. I look forward to getting up at 4am for another 30 years.”
• There’s a new Rhythmic outlet in Ft. Myers, FL, as Sun Broadcast Group launches Fly 98.5 on WLVO, the former Spanish Christian outlet that Sun recently acquired from EMF. The new format debuted just hours after Sun closed on the sale.
Fly 98.5 is currently rolling jockless, playing “Non-Stop Hip Hop” under the command of a familiar market name — Scrap Jackson, who programmed iHeartMedia rival WBTT (105-5 The Beat) for 10 years until December 2012. Since that time Jackson has stayed plenty busy programming Caribbean radio and TV stations in Jamaica, Bahamas, Belize and Antigua via remote. “Fort Myers is bubbling under with a legion of Hip Hop fans, not currently being served by radio,” Jackson tells RAMP. “We are excited to give them more than a jukebox.” Jackson is now actively soliciting for new air talent — you are invited to rush your awesome aircheck to HeyScrappy@hotmail.com.
