Karson & Kennedy Feed The Front Lines
• Over the weekend we chatted with Karson Tager, half of Karson & Kennedy In The Morning on Entercom Hot AC WWBX (Mix 104.1)/Boston, who was nice enough to share the details of a fundraiser they did last week… a campaign that a) caught the attention of a major recording artist, and b) had a very personal connection for him, as it happens.
“Each morning we asked 30 listeners to call a designated local restaurant and commit to buying a lunch that would be delivered that day to those working the front lines,” Tager tells RAMP. “Epic Records recording artist (and Massachusetts native) Meghan Trainor heard about our idea and pledged to buy another 50 lunches each day, as well.” Doing some quick mental math, the initial goal was to purchase 80 lunches a day, or 400 for the week.
“We were blown away by the response!” Tager said. “We ended up delivering almost 700 lunches to Massachusetts General Hospital, which is widely regarded as Ground Zero for COVID-19 cases in Boston. Mass General actually saved my friend’s life two weeks ago, which was part of the reason we got involved.” [Ed. note: the amazing survival story of Jim Bello was chronicled in the New York Times].
Tager added, “This was really a two-fold plan too, in that we wanted to feed the front lines, but also add an economic boost to five area restaurants — The Bacon Truck, Arsenal Catering/Flame Cafe, Brewer’s Fork, Summer Shack and Harvard Gardens. In fact, it went so well that this week we’re kicking off ‘Feed The Front Lines Fridays,’ where each Friday, a different restaurant will deliver to another group of amazing front line workers. Seeing the photographs each day was a reminder of the impact you can have on someone’s life with just a small gesture of kindness.”
