Bob Levy Signs Off

• Jersey Shore radio legend Bob Levy, a fixture on Townsquare Media AC WOBM/Toms River, NJ since it signed on in 1968, died Thursday, March 1 at the age of 86 due to complications from a recent fall. In an odd, yet somehow fitting twist of fate, Levy’s death coincided with the 50th anniversary of the launch of 92.7 WOBM, the station he helped to build and maintain for half a century.

A tribute posted on WOBM.com reads, in part, “The original Sales Manager for 92.7 WOBM-FM, Levy also went on to serve as the Sports Director, General Manager and well known on-air personality with his show Topic A, one of Ocean County’s most-listened-to shows since 1979.

In 2012, Levy was inducted as a charter member into the New Jersey Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame. Levy is also a member of the Lakewood High School Hall of Fame and is the namesake of the Bob Levy Broadcast Center where all of Townsquare Media New Jersey Shore stations operate — a tribute to his years of dedicated service. Levy had recently teamed up with Ocean County philanthropist Jeremy Grunin to continue the very popular Topic A program.

Only a few weeks prior to his passing, Levy was in the studio reminiscing about the early days of the station and other memorable career moments.” Levy is survived by his wife, Marianne, daughter, Karen and son, Steven.
