Half-Century Milestone For KNX
• Entercom’s KNX 1070 News Radio/Los Angeles just celebrated 50 years of being Southern California’s only 24-hour news and traffic station. Currently, over 1.5 million people tune in to KNX every week for its comprehensive coverage of local, national and international news, in addition to its trademark traffic and weather updates every 10 minutes on the 5’s.
“We are proud to be a part of the fabric of the Los Angeles community,” said Jeff Federman, SVP/Market Manager, Entercom Los Angeles. “We look forward to continuing to inform and engage with Southern California listeners for the years to come.” Ken Charles, Director of Programming, Entercom Los Angeles remarked, “Since 1968 we have seen nine presidents, six governors, and six mayors. Through it all, KNX has been that one consistent source for integrity, trust and credibility.”
During its first 18 months on-air, KNX covered the assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, the Vietnam War, the Manson murders and man’s landing on the moon! The award-winning station also covered the 1984 Olympics, the Rodney King trial, the 1994 Northridge Earthquake and the O.J. Simpson trial, to name just a few major news events. Some of the many names that have contributed to KNX news over the last five decades include Bill Keane, Jack Popejoy, Alex Sullivan, Jon Goodman, Barry Rohde, Beach Rogers, Dave Zorn and Harry Burrell, plus today’s dedicated staff, Southern California’s most experienced radio news team.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (center) was on hand to present KNX with a proclamation celebrating 50 years of service to the city. Staffers Frank Mottek, Julie Chi, Ken Charles, Charles Feldman and Dick Helton accepted on behalf of everyone at the station.
