Happy 95th, WBT-AM!

Entercom News-Talk WBT 1110 AM/Charlotte his week celebrated its 95th anniversary! This milestone also included special programming highlighting key moments in the station’s 95-year history and the induction of station vets Ray Gooding, Henry Boggan and John Hancock into the WBT Hall of Fame.

John Hancock joined WBT in 1990 as Charlotte’s Most Beloved. He’s currently on air weekdays from 3-6pm. Ray Gooding was one of the first African-American on-air personalities in Charlotte. He began his career in 1960 and joined WBT 1110 AM in 1971 as the host of The Sunday Night Hall of Fame, which ran for 24 years. Gooding also served as WBT’s Director of Public Affairs for over 10 years. Henry Boggan joined WBT 1110 AM in 1979 as the host of the nighttime talk show, Hello Henry, which ran for 17 years until Boggan’s retirement in 1996.

The WBT Hall of Fame was launched in 1997 to mark WBT’s 75th anniversary with the induction of former GM/PD and on-air talent Charles Crutchfield. Since 1997, the WBT Hall of Fame inducts new members every five years. The 2017 WBT Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 28 at the Foundation for the Carolinas in Uptown Charlotte.

The City of Charlotte also paid tribute to WBT’s 95-year heritage by changing the lights of the Wells Fargo Duke Energy Center to blue, red and white in commemoration of the WBT logo.
