WSB Closes In On Century Mark

WSB 95th BirthdayCox Media Group’s venerable News-Talk outlet WSB-AM last week celebrated its 95th birthday! Recognized as the oldest broadcaster in the South, WSB-AM launched on March 15, 1922 and has ably served the metro Atlanta area with news, weather and local information for nearly a century. In August of 2010, the company expanded the footprint of WSB’s format by adding the FM simulcast at 95.5, flushing the Rhythmic format on WTBS (95.5 The Beat), and later changing calls to WSBB and creating the modern News-Talk behemoth known and loved as News 95.5/AM 750.

In recognizing this remarkable broadcasting milestone, Condace Pressley, WSB Radio’s Manager of Program Operations and Community Affairs (and a member of the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame) remarked, “In 1922, WSB was licensed to deliver weather reports. Today, delivery of accurate and dependable news, weather and traffic remains our calling card, but this station and its people are so much more. Service to the Atlanta community is in WSB’s DNA.”

Pete Spriggs, WSB Radio’s Director of Branding and Programming, added, “The WSB brand of local news, weather and traffic has grown from being on AM only to now serving north Georgia on FM, mobile, and digital. It all boils down to our slogan — Depend On It!” Fellow radio geeks are invited to visit wsbradio.com for videos, photo galleries, audio clips and rare archived footage of WSB Radio’s illustrious 95-year history.
