Weed Wraps Half-Century Career

• Veteran broadcaster Steve Weed announced today his retirement from radio, capping off a remarkable career that has spanned nearly 50 years. “It’s been an incredible journey, from weekend shifts while in college at UCLA, right up to today,” said Weed, who is stepping away from his current position as iHeartMedia’s Fresno-based SVP of Programming for Central California. Weed added, “I’ve spent my entire working life doing the one thing I love… never holding a job outside of radio.”

Weed began his half-century broadcasting career on the air at the late, legendary WXLO (99X)/New York and KIIS-FM/Los Angeles. Later crossing the hall into management, he successfully programmed stations in New York, Detroit, St. Louis, and Seattle. Coming back to the west coast in 1998, Weed launched Entercom Top 40 KDND (107.9 The End)/Sacramento. He joined iHeartMedia in 2010.

Weed said, “I’ve been truly blessed to have worked with so many gifted and talented people throughout my career, and I hope along the way I’ve helped some advance their own careers.” In closing, Weed shared a secret, saying, “I can tell you this now — I would have done it all for free!” Looking ahead, Weed is headed for Europe next month and will discuss his future plans after that.
