The Game Is Afoot In Milwaukee
• The city of Milwaukee just got its second new Sports-Talk outlet in less than a month, as iHeartMedia flushed Top 40 on WRNW (97.3 NOW) and in its place launched 93.7 The Game, “Sports Talk That Rocks.” As we reported late last month, Good Karma Brands closed on its purchase of Scripps News-Talk WTMJ and Country WKTI and flipped WKTI to 94.1 ESPN.
“Sports talk in Milwaukee is about to change,” said Tim Scott, PD of 97.3 The Game and sister WTSO (The BIG 1070)/Madison. “Milwaukee is more than just a great sports town and 97.3 The Game will reflect that.” The Game will feature market vets Drew Olson and Kevin “KB” Brandt in morning drive, followed by The Crossover with Dan Needles and Ted Davis from 10am-noon; The Double Team with Dario Melendez and Bob Brainerd from noon-2pm and The Mike Heller Show from 2-6pm. 97.3 The Game will also be Milwaukee’s exclusive FM home for the University of Wisconsin Badgers play-by-play, the NFL postseason and Super Bowl LIII.
97.3 The Game will be paired with clustermate WOKY (The Big 920), which will feature Mike Lucas in the Morning, national personalities Dan Patrick, Colin Cowherd, Rich Eisen and FOX Sports Radio. The Big 920 will continue to be the home for the Milwaukee Admirals, NFL, NCAA tournament, high school sports and NASCAR. University of Wisconsin football, men’s basketball and hockey will be featured on both 97.3 The Game and The Big 920.
• Now, the good news: no jobs were lost as a result of the flip — Brett Andrews, who had been doing afternoons on 97-3 NOW remains PD of Classic Hits WRIT (95.7 BIG FM), and we are told that 97-3 NOW morning personality Rahny Taylor and ProducerDave Michaels “will be reassigned.”
