Condolences: Joel Cash

• Services were held today in Boynton Beach, FL for Joel Cash, one of the original 68 WRKO/Boston air personalities, who died Friday, March 13. Cash, whose given name was Joel Lubin, was 87.

Most of Cash’s radio career was spent in South Florida, starting in 1958 at WKAT-AM 1360/Miami, working alongside an upstart Larry King. Cash later moved up the coast to WBZT-AM 1290/West Palm Beach, followed by a relocation to New England, spending four years at Top 40 powerhouse WDRC-AM 1360/Hartford, which led to his run in Boston, when WNAC-AM flipped to Top 40 as 68 WRKO. Cash did the midday shift, in between morning host Al Gates and afternoon drive JJ Jeffery. According to “Radio’s Best Friend,” Art Vuolo (pictured here with Cash in 2019), Cash made it back for both the 25th and 50th WRKO reunions in 1992 and 2017.

After several tough New England winters, Cash returned to South Florida to run his own business and do some part-time radio and voiceover work.

As a veteran, Cash received a military funeral and was buried in a V.A. cemetery in Lake Worth, FL. Cash is survived by his wife, Carol R. Lubin, Son: Richard (Sheri) Lubin, Daughter: Debbie (Jeffrey) Torine, Grandchild: Reed Torine, and Brother: David (Elke) Lubin. [Special thanks to Art Vuolo]
