Smasher Like Candy

• We originally broke this news back on October 10, but hey, the press release just arrived, so… here it is again, this time with inspiring quotes! — Bryan Broadcasting Top 40 KNDE (Candy 95)/Bryan-College Station, TX has hired major market vet Atom Smasher to co-host the new Katy and Smash morning show with PD Katy Dempsey, starting Monday, November 6.

Smasher most recently did mornings for iHeartMedia Alternative KDGE (102.1 The Edge)/Dallas. He previously co-hosted mornings at CBS Radio Hot AC KHMX (Mix 96.5)/Houston and at South Central Top 40 WSTO/Evansville, IN. Earlier in his career Smasher spent eight years with KRBE/Houston, followed by a run with KHKS/Dallas.

Smasher said, “I’m excited to be with a company that still follows the fundamental rules of what radio was intended to be. Candy 95 is local and community-driven. They just won a Marconi, so I’d say they’re pretty good at it. Big thanks to GM Ben Downs for having faith in my skills, and PD Katy Dempsey, who has already shown herself to be one of the most dedicated/hard-working people I’ve seen. Now how long before she hates seeing my face in the morning?”

Dempsey retorted, “It’s not a pretty face, but he’ll do. We are excited to introduce Atom to our audience. A large portion of our listeners are from Houston/Dallas, so it’s going to be a pleasant surprise for those who grew up with the guy. (That’s an OLD joke).”
