The Inspiring Ms. Nikki Reed
• We want to send our most sincere best wishes — and a massive dose of respect — to Nikki Reed, one fourth of the highly rated Smiley Morning Show on Cumulus Top 40 WZPL/Indianapolis, who recently made the courageous decision to become a kidney donor!
OM JR Ammons explains the reasoning behind Reed’s brave decision, telling RAMP, “Nikki started looking into donating a kidney when a friend of hers needed one. Unfortunately Nikki wasn’t a match for her friend, however, she decided to continue with the process and donate one of her kidneys to a stranger that needs it.”
Commenting on her medical journey so far, Reed remarked, “It’s been a seven-month process, and I’ve undergone so many tests. I kept waiting for the doctors to tell me why I couldn’tbe a donor and it just never happened.” She added, “We all want to make a difference in the short time we’re on this planet. I really feel like this is my chance to make in impact in someone’s life — it was an opportunity I just couldn’t pass up.”
Reed will undergo the surgery in December and she’s looking at a 6-to-8-week recovery time. After the surgery her kidney will go into the National Kidney Registry, where it will possibly save someone’s life. Nikki has been documenting the transplant process, and you can follow along at wzpl.com.
