Bobby Rich Out In Tucson
Details are still sketchy, but we were among the thousands who were shocked yesterday afternoon while cruising through our Facebook feed, only to read this surprising and unfortunate post from Bobby Rich, a friend to many in our industry and a 25-year fixture at Scripps AC KMXZ (94.9 MIXfm)/Tucson — The post reads, “I made a big mistake and said something I should not have said. Even though I regret it and apologized, I own it, and now it becomes necessary for my association with MIXfm and Scripps Tucson to conclude. We (I’m talkin’ to listeners, co-workers and the community in general) have been through so much in the last 25 years… From my daughters growing up before your ears, to the horrific news of 9-11 and January 8, to UA Wildcat wins and losses… you always treated me as a friend, and I responded in kind through good times and bad. ‘We’ were there for each other and that will stay with me eternally. I won’t be heard on MIXfm anymore, but there won’t be a going away party. Wherever you go my love goes with you. Vaya con Dios.” Rich famously hosted The Morning MIX on KMZX for more than 24 years until January 3 of this year, when he shifted to afternoon drive.
RAMP reached out to Smokey Rivers, Operations Manager of Scripps Tucson, who confirmed Rich’s departure, saying, “94-9 MIXfm did part company with Bobby Rich today. We appreciate Bobby’s many years of service to the station and the Tucson community.” Rivers will be handling afternoon drive until a permanent host is named.
Yesterday afternoon RAMP also made contact with Mr. Bobby Rich, who told us, “While I truly regret what has happened at KMXZ, I know in my heart that I belong on the radio and I have always believed in following my heart.”
