Long Island’s Mark Daniels: Free Agent

• Connoisseur Media Hot AC WALK 97.5/Long Island has undergone a major personnel change in morning drive, as longtime wake-up host Mark Daniels has exited after 33+ years. The news was initially reported by Newsday, which said Daniels confirmed that his last day at WALK was Friday, Nov. 15. “It’s been a lot of fun but the business is the business,” said Daniels, who originally joined WALK in 1985. He added, “I sadly certainly wasn’t prepared for it.”

In a phone interview with Newsday, SVP/Market Manager Jim Condron referred to Daniels as “a valuable friend and at this point almost like family — I’ve been at the station 20 years, myself — but it’s a living, breathing thing and we have to evolve and change, and make the station as relevant as it’s been for over five decades. Mark has certainly contributed to the heritage.”

Condron told Newsday that an all-new morning show will be launched on January 1. RAMP has also confirmed with PD Tommy Conway that current morning co-host Jamie Morris, who joined WALK in October 2016, will remain with the company but will not be part of the new show. Daniels can be contacted via email at markdangio@icloud.com.
