Pros On The Loose: Tony Scott

• After 50 years of hosting radio shows — the last decade in afternoon drive on Pacific Broadcasting Group Classic Hits WXRC (95.7 The Ride)/Charlotte, major market veteran Tony Scott will be amicably parting ways and unplugging this Friday, Aug. 29.

Scott’s remarkable half-century radio run began, interestingly, on American Forces Network (AFN) in Taiwan. In 1979, Scott landed his first big stateside gig at WPGC/Washington. That was followed by a stop at the legendary WIFI-92/Philadelphia in the early ’80s before Scott headed west to Denver, where he worked at KIMN & KPKE.

Scott eventually landed in Los Angeles, where he notably cracked the mic at KIIS-FM, KRTH (K-Earth 101), 95.5 KLOS (as host of The 7th Day album spotlight show and longtime back-up host to Bob Coburn on the syndicated Rockline), and the late KSWD (100.3 The Sound). Scott continues to work with several companies, including AFN, where he hosted a daily feature for the last 20 years that is carried worldwide on the network.

As Scott now scans the horizon for what’s next, he commented, “Huge thanks to [WXRC owner] Dave Lingafelt and the staff at WXRC for bringing me in to help start up the station 23 years ago. Originally I was the voice of the station, and evolved into the afternoon host. The Drive continues to pull huge numbers in the market, so it feels great to leave on a high note.”
