Horton Earns EVP Stripes @ Republic

• Republic Records has promoted Michael Horton to Executive Vice President — as just announced by Founder and CEO Monte Lipman.

In his newly enhanced position, Horton will continue to oversee promotion campaigns for Republic and Island Records’ rosters at the Hip Hop and R&B format, including Drake, Lil Wayne, The Weeknd, Nicki Minaj and Post Malone, along with breakthrough acts like Jacquees, Kiana Ledé, and Pop Smoke, to name a few. In recognition of his work throughout 2019, Variety named Horton among its annual “Hitmakers and Hitbreakers.”

Regarding Horton’s promotion, Lipman commented, “For the past twenty years, Mike has been responsible for breaking the most important artists of this generation. His reputation, tenacity and strategic approach, make him a leader among his peers; and his track record and competitive spirit have made a tremendous impact to the overall success of our company.”

A 24-year veteran of Republic Records, the New York-based Horton joined the Promotion team in 1996. He started his career at Capitol Records before moving to Interscope Records in 1992. “Republic Records has always been forward thinking,” said Horton. “I enjoy breaking acts more than anything. Monte and Avery Lipman give me the opportunity to introduce the world to new music. That drives me. They’re always striving for the best. It inspires the rest of the team to push the envelope. We’re always looking ahead together, and there’s nothing better.”
