Rashid Named SVP/Urban @ Columbia
• Columbia Records has named Azim Rashid as Senior Vice President Urban Promotion. In this new position, Rashid will leading the label’s Urban Promotion department and be responsible for the Columbia roster at Urban radio.
The announcement of Rashid’s hire was made by Jim Burruss, Columbia SVP of Promotion/Operations, who said, “Azim is renowned as both a sharp promotion executive and a respected figure in urban music with a phenomenal track record of launching artists at radio. On behalf of the entire Promotion team, I’m very excited to welcome him to the Columbia Records family.”
Rashid was most recently Senior Vice President of Promotion at Roc Nation, and he previously held executive positions at Motown Records, Atlantic Records and Capitol Music Group. Commenting on his new Columbia opportunity, Rashid remarked, “Columbia Records is home to some of the most important artists in music history. And now to some of the hottest new artists in the game… I’m thrilled for what the future holds. This is an incredible new chapter and I am honored to embark upon it.”
