Remembering Ruben Rodriguez

• We were deeply saddened earlier this week to learn that veteran promotion executive Ruben Rodriguez died Sunday, Oct. 24. He was only 68 years old. On Thursday evening Ruben’s family released a lengthy and loving remembrance on Facebook, which we urge you to read.

Rodriguez spent his early years with Motown and Casablanca Records, and notably served as SVP of Promotion at Columbia Records in the late ’80s, followed by a similar position with Elektra Records. In 1990 launched Pendulum Records, famously guiding the career of the Grammy Award-winning Digable Planets, and Regina Belle, among other acts. His other businesses include RAM Talent Group and Ruben Rodriguez Entertainment, which he had operated since 1998.

Ruben is survived by his daughter, Erica Rodriguez-Jenkins and son-in-law, Guss Tyshawn Jenkins; a granddaughter, Yerdi Hoyos-Pineda; brothers Vincente Rivera and Jose Humberto Rivera; Brother in-law, Angel Torres; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, from 1-3pm at Saint Cecilia Church, 55 W. Demarest Avenue, Englewood NJ.  Live streaming of the service will be available online at claytonfuneralhome.com.

Because of Ruben’s strong commitment and involvement with the T.J. Martell Foundation, in lieu of flowers his family asks that donations be dedicated in his memory at tjmartell.org.
