Sounds Named SVP/A&R At Capitol

Solomon Sounds has joined Capitol Records as Senior Vice President of A&R. In his new position, Sounds will draw upon his broad experience as an artist manager and independent label owner to sign and develop artists for the company, as well as oversee recording projects for new and established Capitol artists.

Sounds is based in the company’s New York offices and reports to Capitol Music Group (CMG) Chairman & CEO Jeff Vaughn, who commented, “Solomon’s proven instinct for identifying impactful artists and his ability to nurture their creativity aligns perfectly with our mission at Capitol. His successes to date reflect our shared commitment to artists from all corners of the pop music landscape, which is more dynamic and diverse than ever. Everyone at Capitol joins me in welcoming Solomon to the team.”

Sounds comes to Capitol after 10 years as a highly successful manager of numerous artists through his company and label, Sounds Music Group. Among his notable clients was rapper and songwriter XXXTentacion, whose meteoric career and multi-platinum success was cut short by his tragic and untimely death in 2018. In the years that Sounds managed the artist and through his management of the artist’s estate, XXXTentacion has amassed RIAA-certified sales of 61 million albums and singles in the U.S. alone. After a brief hiatus from the music business following XXXTentacion’s death and a joint venture with Republic Records in 2018, Sounds resumed managing artists, achieving multi-platinum success with rapper StaySolidRocky, as well as securing highly-competitive deals for rappers ppcocaine, Cochise, 645Ar and BFB Da Packman. Sounds began his career as an intern, working at Columbia, RCA and Decca, as well as at Canada-based E1 Entertainment.

“I’m truly excited to build upon the rich history of Capitol Records, and help usher in a new era filled with artists who are pushing the boundaries of creativity and new ways of accomplishing their dreams and goals,” Sounds said. “Jeff Vaughn is assembling a powerhouse team, and I’m grateful to him for believing in my talents and trusting me to help the label grow in the years to come.”
