VP Upgrades For LaMartina & Garcia
• And there’s more Def Jam executive action — newly elevated EVP/Head Of Promotion Noah Sheer announced that New York-based Laurie LaMartina and Mundo Garcia have both been promoted to Vice President, Promotion. LaMartina will lead radio promotion nationally at the Top 40, Hot AC, and AC formats, while Garcia will lead radio promotion nationally at the Rhythm format, each reporting directly to Sheer, who noted, “I’m constantly beyond impressed with what Laurie and Mundo have been able to achieve — in both promotion and overall as executives — in their time here at Def Jam. Their growth and evolution have been nothing short of remarkable. They have developed into the future of this business, and I could not be more thrilled to go in to battle with them by my side each and every day.”
LaMartina began her career in 2002 as a Programming Asst. at WPXY/Rochester, NY. In 2008, she segued to the label side with a five-year stint at Warner Bros. Records, first as a Promotion Asst. in Burbank, and later as Northeast Regional Promotion Manager in New York. She joined Def Jam in 2015 as Northeast Regional Promo Manager and was subsequently named East Coast Promotion Manager, and Director, Promotion.
“After beginning my career at Top 40 radio 19 years ago in my hometown, I’m humbled to be elevated to the executive level at Def Jam Recordings, to lead promotion for that same format,” said LaMartina. “Breaking careers for artists and connecting the public to their music has been hugely rewarding. I look forward to meeting the new challenges of this industry with energy, strategy and innovation. Def Jam is an inimitable, deeply cultural brand, and I’m fortunate and endlessly grateful to Noah Sheer, Nicki Farag and the entire team to be able to play a small part in its story!”
Garcia has served as VP of Rhythm Promotion since 2018, following his two-year stint as Director, Rhythm Promotion. He began his career in 2009 as a Promotion Intern at IDJ in Santa Monica. After an interim year as a Promotion Assistant at Capitol Records, Garcia rejoined IDJ in New York in 2011 in a similar capacity. He relocated back to Santa Monica in 2014, officially joining the Def Jam Promotion staff as West Coast Regional Manager. “As an intern, I never could have imagined a career spanning over a decade at Def Jam,” Garcia said. “It’s been an honor to work with and contribute to such amazing team members and artists. Thank you to Nicki Farag and Noah Sheer for allowing me to grow into an executive role with this company. Congratulations to Noah Sheer, Laurie LaMartina and the rest of the team on their respective promotions. I’m excited for the bright future ahead.”
• In further Def Jam promo moves, Sheer announces Dave “Sonny D” Rego is upped to Sr. Director, Rhythm & Crossover Promotion; Daisy Moreira moves up to Director, East Coast & Midwest Promotion; Kevin “Chixo” Gibbs is upped to Director, Southwest Promotion; and Michael Jackson moves up to Manager, West Coast Promotion.
