Costa To Succeed Stoney At Detroit’s Ticket

• Audacy Sports-Talk WXYT (97.1 The Ticket)/Detroit, the radio flagship of yoooouuurrr Detroit Lions, announced a new morning show configuration, starting early next year — Jim Costa (left), who has been hosting nights, weekends, and primetime fill-ins, has been tapped as the Ticket’s new morning host alongside current co-host Jon Jansen (right). The all-new Costa & Jansen morning show will debut in February 2024, following the conclusion of the Lions’ season.

Costa will succeed market veteran Mike Stone, who in late August announced that this is his final season as co-host of the Stoney & Jansen (with Heather) morning show. Stoney will maintain his current role through the NFL season, stepping down into a reduced role after the Super Bowl. Stone will stay with The Ticket as a regular fill-in host for at least the next two years and is now co-hosting the Lions’ postgame show with Fox 2‘s Jennifer Hammond.

“I’m thrilled that Jim Costa will be the next co-host of the 97.1 The Ticket morning show,” said Debbie Kenyon, SVP/Market Manager, Audacy Detroit. “Jim has spent the last few years building a great relationship with his listeners. We look forward to the talents of Jim Costa and Jon Jansen entertaining and informing the Detroit sports audience and can’t wait to see how the show evolves in 2024.” Jansen said of Costa, “Jim is a hard worker, is always prepared, and has a great passion for Detroit sports. He’ll be a great addition to our team in the morning, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”`

“This is a dream come true for me,” said Costa, who joined The Ticket in Feb. 2021 after five years in afternoons at iHeartMedia’s WMAX/Grand Rapids. “My whole career, I’ve chased the chance to build a show on 97.1 The Ticket. I grew up listening to this station and rooting for these teams. To start the conversation in Detroit every morning is special. Jon Jansen and I are a good contrast; we play off each other well, and I’m excited for the show we will create along with Heather and the entire morning show crew.”
