KOLA’s Vic Slick, Over & Out

• Sad news for listeners in California’s Inland Empire — The “Vic Slick Era” is coming to an end at Anaheim Broadcasting Classic Hits KOLA 99.9/Riverside-San Bernardino, as beloved on-air personality Victor “Vic Slick” Corral will conclude his remarkable 31-year run with the station this Friday, Dec. 12.

Vic Slick began his journey at KOLA in 1994 doing nights, and steadily rose through the ranks, later hosting the morning show before settling into his current pm drive spot. For more than three decades, Vic’s voice has been synonymous with Classic Hits radio in the Inland Empire, connecting generations of listeners with the music of the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, and now the ’90s and 2000s.

Beyond the radio, Slick became the iconic “Voice of the Rendezvous,” serving as the announcer for San Bernardino’s legendary Route 66 Rendezvous car show for many years. His contributions to the classic car and cruising community were recognized in 2012 with his induction into the Cruisin’ Hall of Fame as a Lifetime Achievement Honoree.

“Ever since I was 8, I’ve wanted to be on the radio,” Slick said. “Growing up in the Inland Empire (Colton, CA), I listened to KMEN, KFXM, KRLA, and KHJ. My heroes growing up were Wolfman Jack, Casey Kasem, and The Real Don Steele. Working on the radio where I grew up? Totally a dream come true. And, combining my radio career with my love of classic car shows? Can’t get any better than that. The Inland Empire has been amazing to me, and I’m so thankful.”

“It has been an absolute pleasure and an honor to have worked side-by-side with Vic for the past 31 years,” said Jeff Parke, GM of KOLA. “He was already a legend when we hired him, and he has remained a legend the whole time he’s been with us at KOLA. It will be very hard to lose Vic, not just as a diligent, loyal broadcasting professional, but also a dear friend who I’ll miss every day. I wish Vic all the best in his retirement.”

“Vic has spent 31 incredible years doing what he does best — connecting with listeners in the Inland Empire,” said Gary Springfield, PD of KOLA. “He is the best of all of what KOLA represents to the community. His impact is immeasurable, and his presence will be deeply missed by our team and our listeners.”

Listeners are encouraged to tune in to Vic Slick’s final show this Friday, Dec. 12, from 2-7pm PT to celebrate his remarkable career and share in this milestone moment.
