KSHE & U-Man’s Golden Anniversary

• The mighty K-SHE 95/St. Louis is celebrating an extraordinary milestone as John “U-Man” Ulett marks 50 years on the air at Hubbard’s legendary rock station. Ulett’s half-century tenure at a single station is believed to be among the longest active runs by an on-air personality in major market radio.

Ulett, then a fresh-faced 19-year-old, joined K-SHE in May 1976 and went on to become one of the most recognizable and beloved voices in St. Louis radio history. Ulett more recently co-hosted The Morning Rock Show alongside AD Rowntree until April 2023. Five decades into his run, Ulett remains a cornerstone of the station as host of the long-running K-SHE Klassics program every Sunday morning from 7-11am.

“It’s hard to imagine K-SHE without the U-Man,” said Marty Linck, Brand Content Director for KSHE 95. “For 50 years, John has been part of the soundtrack of St. Louis. His voice, personality, and connection to listeners have helped define what K-SHE is. Generations of rock fans have grown up listening to him — including me.”

Beyond his radio work, Ulett has also spent decades serving as the public address announcer for the St. Louis Cardinals, further cementing his place as one of the city’s most familiar and trusted voices.

To commemorate this remarkable broadcast milestone, K-SHE hosted “A Klassic Evening Celebrating John Ulett” on June 12 at The Pageant. The sold-out event featured live music, stories from Ulett’s remarkable career, appearances by KSHE alumni, and special commemorative merchandise honoring the milestone.

“When I started here at age 19, I knew pretty quickly that K-SHE was a special place,” said Ulett. “But I never imagined I would work ANYWHERE for 50 years, much less a legendary radio station like K-SHE 95. But it happened! A stable music format and solid ownership by companies like Emmis Communications and Hubbard contributed to my fortunate outcome.”

Ulett’s remarkable milestone anniversary is more than a celebration of one broadcaster’s career — it’s also a reflection of a legacy brand that continues to thrive through its connection to listeners and the community it serves.
