New South Radio Opens ‘The Box’
• New South Radio in Jackson, MS today launched a brand new signal and the market’s newest format — WIIN-AM 780, formerly the home of The Blues, has flipped to Classic R&B as 102.1 The Box, powered by new translator W271DF at 102.1. At the same time, The Blues has migrated over to WHJT-HD2 and 93.1FM (W225BK).
Market Manager Bob Lawrence notes, “Central Mississippi has been in dire need of a Classic R&B ‘party’ station. We will be playing everything from Motown right up through the ’90s, the core of which is ’80s. You’ll hear Classics from the Temps, Emotions, Janet Jackson, SNAP, Naughty By Nature, and so much more!”
Tyrone Davis, PD of The Blues, is now also programming 102.1 The Box. “I’m thrilled to be a part of this exciting new format on our brand new radio station,” Davis said. “The music crosses all demos and may end up being the most fun I’ve ever had programming a radio station.” As we speak, The Box is rolling commercial-free, playing 10,000 songs in-a-row.
