Raise Your Glass To Al McCoy

• Last month we shared the story of Al McCoy, legendary Phoenix Suns’ broadcaster, who is retiring at the end of this, his 51st season of calling Suns’ games. McCoy, who celebrates his 90th birthday on April 26, is currently the longest tenured play-by-play voice in the NBA, having joined the Suns’ broadcast team in 1972.

“There’s been so much news coverage on my Dad’s retirement, it’s been humbling,” says Mike McCoy, veteran radio programmer and proud son of Al McCoy. “The Suns did a huge send-off this past Sunday during half-time. The love from Suns’ fans and beyond is just amazing. Reading all the comments on some of the posts blows my mind. I know how hard it is to earn that respect and build that bond with listeners… and very few do.”

That local love extends to the PHX Beer Co., which is celebrating Al McCoy’s legendary career and retirement with the release of a special tribute craft beer dubbed “Shazaam! Valley Style IPA,” named in honor of McCoy’s iconic “Shazam” catchphrase.

“Shazaam” will be released Friday and is available in handy 4-packs or on draft at the Tap House locations in downtown Phoenix and Scottsdale.
