Rick & Bubba Signing Off
• The end of the “Rick & Bubba Era” as we know it is approaching — yesterday, Rick & Bubba Show hosts Rick Burgess and Bill “Bubba” Bussey, who are currently syndicated to 60+ stations from their flagship, SummitMedia 104.7 WZZK/Birmingham, AL, surprised their longtime listeners by announcing they will wrap up their 30-year run together at the end of the year.
RAMP contacted Rick Burgess, who told us, “The Rick and Bubba Show has been an incredible run. We went on the air in 1994, committed to proving that personality radio wasn’t dead, and large audiences would flock to a show that featured real people who sounded like them. We are so grateful for the loyal audience who have afforded us such a wonderful life. We thank every station who trusted us on their airwaves and the many sponsors who paid our salary. We owe it to them to finish this year with the best shows we have ever done.”
Looking ahead, Burgess said, “As for the future, I will always be grateful to Bubba for taking this journey with me and wish him continued success in his next chapter. I’m excited to explore doing another show in 2025. I have dreamed of being on the radio since I was a little boy, and since I can still mentally and physically do a show, I’m ready for something new. So, we both are celebrating the past and excited about the future. Hopefully we are leaving the audience wanting more.”
RAMP also reached out to SummitMedia EVP of Programming Randy Chase, who commented, “Rick and Bubba have been a staple in Alabama for 30 years and have graced WZZK since 2007. As we embark on a year of celebration, their legacy will continue until 12/31, and we are exploring options for the future!”
