TRL Reboot Announces Hosts
MTV is actively appealing to a whole new social media-fueled generation with its upcoming reboot of Total Request Live (TRL) — according to The Hollywood Reporter, MTV has enlisted social media star Liza Koshy to provide on-air hosting duties to its forthcoming TRL revival, which is set to launch October 2 from its new studio overlooking Times Square.
Unlike the original show, which was hosted for most of its run by Carson Daly, this new 2017 version TRL will feature multiple hosts, including previously announced WKSC (103.5 Kiss FM)/Chicago night jock Erik Zachary and rapper-comedian DC Young Fly. The other hosts have been identified as DJ/actress Amy Pham, TV personality Lawrence Jackson and writer-producer Tamara Dhia.
The Reporter says the TRL gig is part of a larger first-look overall deal with Koshy, a social media monster who has nearly 10.8 million subscribers to her YouTube channel, 13.1 million Instagram followers, 1.1 million on Twitter and 2.2 million on Facebook. We are told that she is the fastest YouTube personality thus far to reach 10 million subscribers. In addition to her weekly YouTube postings, Koshy can currently be seen in Hulu’s Freakish and Tyler Perry‘s A Madea Halloween. She previously hosted the 2017 Golden Globes‘ live preshow on Twitter. This first-look deal also allows Koshy to develop new projects for MTV and have her appear elsewhere on the network throughout the year.
