Loving ‘That Thing You Do!’

• Fellow fanatic fans of That Thing You Do! Assemble! That’s right — “The One-ders” are back — for one night only!

As The Nerdist reports, Tom Hanks‘ 1996 directorial debut, which became a deeply loved cult classic, and helped launch several notable acting careers is holding a special virtual cast reunion and watch party on the band’s YouTube channel Friday, April 17, at 7pm ET/4pm PT. The livestream commentary is a special benefit for MusiCares.

All four of The Wonders are scheduled to participate: Tom Everett Scott (“Guy Patterson”), Steve Zahn (“Lenny”), Johnathon Schaech (“Jimmy”) and Ethan Embry (“T.B. Player”), along with Liv Tyler (“Faye”).

It was Embry who broke the big news of the group’s reunion via Twitter — “This Friday April 17th, 7pm ET/4pm PT the One’ders are reuniting FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME for a community watch party of That Thing You Do! We’re gonna have the WHOLE band AND @LivTyler + a few other surprise guests live stream a commentary to raise funds for @MusiCares!!”

No word yet on whether Hanks (“Mr. White”) or Charlize Theron (“Tina”) will be among those special guests. The reunion will also provide the perfect platform to pay loving tribute to Adam Schlesinger, the writer of the impossibly hooky Oscar and Golden Globe-nominated title track, who passed away recently due to complications from COVID-19.
