Navy Salutes Radio’s Worldwide Reach
New England’s Greg and The Morning Buzz received a surprise visit this week from U.S. Navy Petty Officer First Class Shawn Myers, a New Hampshire native who presented the show with a special American flag that was flown by the U.S. Navy in honor of The Morning Buzz — atop Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima, the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan on July 4 and aboard a Grumman F7F Tigercat during joint operations.
Myers presented the flag to host Greg Kretschmar and co-hosts Scott “Roadkill” McMullen and Laura Boyce to say “Thank You” for their longtime dedication to those serving in the military, and for giving men and women like him — serving overseas — a little taste of home every day. Levy told The Buzz he listened every day via iHeartRadio at 6:30pm in Japan. “You’ll never know how important what you do is to a lot of men and women serving overseas,” said Myers, adding, “It helped get me through some difficult times.”
Kretschmar, who ends every show by asking listeners to thank active military members and veterans, commented, “It was completely humbling for all of us. Clearly it is us who should be thanking him and those he serves with. It’s a moment and a gift we will never forget. It’s a true honor for all of us,” Kretschmar added. “It’s also a good reminder to anyone in radio, that what you do can really make a difference to someone — and I don’t know what more we could ask for.” Pictured, (l-r): Boyce, Kretschmar, Myers and “Roadkill.”
The Radio Button Network syndicates Greg & The Morning Buzz, enjoyed weekday mornings on iHeartMedia’s WGIR (Rock 101)/Manchester, NH, WHEB/Portsmouth, NH and several other fine New England markets.
