Meet The New & Improved 92KQRS
• At 6am Thursday, after a week of stunting, Cumulus reintroduced a “newer” Classic Rock 92KQRS/Minneapolis, featuring an expanded playlist covering several generations of foundational music.
The newly enhanced 92KQRS now boasts a tastefully blended music mix featuring artists like Nirvana, R.E.M., Green Day, and U2, alongside Rock cornerstones Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, and the Rolling Stones, etc. The new music mix will also put greater focus on the legendary Rock that emanated from Minnesota, from artists like Prince, Soul Asylum, The Replacements, and Bob Dylan.
Along with the musical alterations come some personnel moves — let’s start in morning drive, where Black Crowes‘ co-founder Steve Gorman (center) remains in place, along with co-host Ryder Bue (right) — and a new addition — market veteran Paul Fletcher (left), best known for his 12-year run over at iHeartMedia Hot AC KTCZ (Cities 97.1) until iHeart’s extensive personnel purge last August. Fletcher began his career in the Twin Cities at the former KEGE (93.7 The Edge) and went on to work at KAZR/Des Moines and KQKQ/Omaha, where he was the artist formerly known as “Polychronopolis.” In a move reflecting Fletcher’s addition, the show has been rebranded as Gorman In The Morning with Fletcher & Ryder. Fletcher will also fly solo in middays, as Chris Nelson moves to nights.
And there’s more: Jade, who notably spent 15 years on Minnesota Public Radio Triple A KCMP (The Current), joins KQRS as afternoon drive talent. Current pm driver Lisa Miller will transition to weekends and host a specialty segment, Rock Review that will air several times per day.
James Kurdziel, Director of Content and Programming, 92KQRS, said, “This is an obvious evolution for 92KQRS. An entire generation will no longer be underserved in the Twin Cities. We’re giving them a fresh take on Rock that speaks to their lives and passions. We’re fortunate to have Steve Gorman in the lead and new talent additions to renew our focus on music. 92KQRS is once again relevant to the fans we serve.”
Gorman added, “After a few years living in the Twin Cities, the enormous legacy of 92KQRS couldn’t be clearer to me. The most respectful way to honor that legacy is to move forward with great energy. Our spotlight on the music that matters to Minnesota will be evident from day one. I’m very excited about where we’re going, and I hope you’ll join us.” [Jade photo credit: Meredith Westin]
