99X Off The Air @ 98.9
• Well, this sucks… Cumulus Alternative 99X/Atlanta is currently off the air on its 98.9 frequency following an FCC order to shut off its translator W255CJ, reportedlydue to interference complaints from Gradick Communications’ Classic Hits WWGA, licensed to suburban Tallapoosa, GA. As of now 99X can still be heard on WWWQ-HD2, on the 99X app and streaming at 99X.com.
The 99X Facebook page laid out the basics of the situation, stating, in part, “A few things we want you to know: a) We are pursuing the FCC with an appeal of their decision. We believe the interference complaints were remediated successfully and we have a right to continue to provide lovers of 99X with a product they have proven they love. We are not sure how long the process will take, but we will do all that we can to return 99X to the FM band. b) This is not the end of 99X! Through the distribution channels described above, we’ll continue to program the station with the passion, the love and the effort we have. To that end we will be launching a promotional campaign on our products informing listeners on where they can find 99X.”
Yesterday, the station posted a link to website seeking listener support for their cause, #99XDownButNot Out, along with an update that read, “We’ve been bought and sold. We’ve been moved around the dial. We’ve been shoved on the web. We’ve been taken off. And it’s been done again. But this time, we’re not taking this s*@! Here’s your chance to help us get 99X back on the FM dial. Spread the word!”
