Alpha Media Shrinkage Continues

RAMP has learned that Alpha Media has implemented some significant downsizing in more of the company’s smaller markets — Mason City, Fort Dodge and Newton, IA, and Watertown, SD.

While we are still in the process of gathering names and contact info, Country Aircheck first reported (and RAMP has confirmed) the departures of at least two people from the Mason City cluster: Britt Bailey, Director of Content and morning talent at Country KIAI (93.9 The Moose), and 18-year cluster veteran Jared Allen, exited as cluster Director of Promotions and Director of Content for Top 40 KLSS (Star 106), Classic Hits KYTC (Super Hits 102.7), and Soft Oldies KRIB 1490/96.7.

Bailey shared the news of her exit in a Facebook post that reads, in part, “Was shocked and saddened to learn this morning that my radio show position was terminated along with several of my coworkers too. This sudden change made by our corporate company is hard to grasp. Country music and my show are more than just a job to me — they are cherished opportunities to connect and promote our communities made up of hard-workers, local business and organizations that make a difference, along with new music and the artists that travel with a dream. Together, we have celebrated milestones, raised awareness, and rallied support for those in need.” In closing, Bailey said, “As this chapter closes, the book is still wide open… paving the way for new journeys, opportunities, and adventures to come.” Bailey can be contacted at brittsmorningbrewcrew@gmail.com.

Jared Allen also posted the details of his departure on his Facebook page. He can be reached at jaredallen78@gmail.com or 712-240-3612.

RAMP has separately confirmed the exit of Tim Fleming, Regional Program Manager of News-Talk AM 1300 KGLO/Mason City — who had been with the station since 1978.

NorthIowaToday.com reports that award-winning broadcaster Bob Fisher, “the Voice of Clear Lake Sports” has also exited KGLO. In a social post, Fisher said, in part, “Alpha Media is going in a different direction with their radio stations in their smaller markets. A majority of the programming staff, including me, were terminated this morning as part of that plan. This is not only happening here, but throughout the country with their smaller markets…” Fisher added, “There are still a handful of great employees in the local Alpha Media building, and if you have any comments, please keep in mind, this was not a local decision, it was a corporate decision.”

• And in Watertown, SD, we understand that John Seiber has exited as Director of Content and morning host at Classic Country KDLO after 14 years.

These latest cuts follow similar multiple departures at Alpha Media’s Missouri radio stations last week. If you or someone you know has been caught up in this wave of downsizing and would like your information shared with the industry, please reach out to me at Kevin@RAMP247.com.
