Bill Black Touches Down In Detroit
• As we so broadly hinted in this morning’s RAMP, iHeartMedia has named veteran programmer Bill Black as Director of Urban Programming for Urban WJLB and Urban AC WMXD (Mix 92.3)/Detroit. He succeeds Nate Bell, who exited in March. Black spent the past 13 years with Radio One, most recently in the dual roles of PD of Urban WENZ (Z107.9) and Urban AC 93.1 WZAK/Cleveland and Regional Operations Manager for Radio One Cincinnati and Columbus.
Black will report to Tony Travatto, Regional SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia Detroit, who remarked, “Bill is a highly successful programmer with a proven track record and we are thrilled to have him on the team. His knowledge of Urban radio is unparalleled and I know he will contribute to each station’s success.”
Black started his radio career at WZHT/Montgomery, AL and went on to work at WFXE (Foxie 105)/Columbus, GA before launching WHXT (Hot 103.9)/Columbia, SC. Black joined Radio One Atlanta in 2006 as Imaging Director and mixer for Urban WHTA (Hot 107.9) and Urban AC WAMJ, later moving up through the ranks to become APD/MD.
“I am really thrilled to join the iHeartMedia team and be able to do what I love,” said Black. “The talented programmers that I get to collaborate with, coupled with these legendary Detroit Urban stations are unmatched and I’m excited to get to work.”
