Borna Leader: Velic New PD Of The Hog
• Saga Communications keeps it in the family and promotes MD/afternoon co-host Borna Velic up into the PD chair at Active Rock WHQG (102.9 The Hog)/Milwaukee. He succeeds former PD (and his pm drive co-host) Joe Calgaro, who was recently named PD of Entercom Rocker WAAF/Boston.
GM Annmarie Topel stated, “Borna has been a major contributor since he joined us and an integral part of The Hog’s success. He has great music intuition and knowledge of the format, coupled with a solid analytical ability that is essential in programming. It doesn’t hurt that the staff likes and respects him.” Saga VP of Programming Bob Lawrence concurs with that assessment, commenting, “Borna was not only the most logical choice, but far and away, the bestchoice. He has proven to be an extremely strong, creative force at The Hog, and I’m just so pleased that we could pass him the baton.”
Before joining The Hog in November 2013, Velic spent 11 years in various roles, including MD and on-air, with Woodward Communications’ WAPL and WZOR (Razor 94.7)/Appleton-Oshkosh. Prior to that, he worked at WPGU/Champaign, IL. Velic remarked, “I am beyond thrilled to work with the incredibly talented team already in place at The Hog. It has been a tremendous experience working alongside former PD, Joe Calgaro. I want to thank Ed Christian, Annmarie Topel and Bob Lawrence for giving me the opportunity to build upon The Hog’s success.”
Velic will continue to anchor the afternoon show with sidekick, Mitch Paget. The Hog is actively seeking a third personality to replace Calgaro as co-host.
