Cannon Dials Back At Hank-FM
Big news out of Emmis Country WLHK (97-1 Hank FM)/Indianapolis as MD/afternoon personality JD Cannon announced his retirement, effective after his last show on April 28. After that he will remain attached to the station as a Brand Ambassador. “May will mark 44 years that I have been blessed with this wonderful career in Country music,” Cannon remarked. “Lots of great memories to carry me the rest of my life. I’m so grateful but I’m also ready to start the next chapter. I’m not quitting, just slowing down a bit… I’ll never get Country radio out of my blood.” Cannon has been with Emmis since 2011, but he’s been in the market for over four decades — he previously spent 32 years across the street at Cumulus rival WFMS. He was inducted into the Country DJ Hall Of Fame in 2004.
Hank FM PD Fritz Moser remarked, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with my friend JD for more than two-thirds of my career. While it’s going to be different not hearing him every day, I’m excited that he’ll continue as Brand Ambassador for Hank FM. JD is going to stay on to do some part-time swing shifts and you’ll likely run into him at concerts and events too.”
• Hank-FM has now begun the challenging search to find a worthy successor for JD Cannon — Interested candidates are invited to read up on the job’s particulars and apply online via the Emmis Careers page (Job ID: 2017-1209).
